Why You Need a Biometric Deadbolt Lock

Why You Need a Biometric Deadbolt Lock

A regular lock is good for your home, but adding a fingerprint scanner vastly increases the security. Read on for why you need a biometric deadbolt lock.

A deadbolt lock that can be opened with the touch of a finger might seem like a thing of the future. But did you know that technology already exists? Think about it, if you have a smartphone, chances are your phone can be opened by reading your fingerprint. Fingerprint scanning is used in place of typing in a passcode.

The same technology exists for home security. You may even have heard of it without realizing it -- they're often called 'biometric' locks instead of fingerprint locks. There are a variety of different locks you can buy and all of them offer additional features to improve on a plain lock. Read on to find out if a biometric deadbolt lock could be right for you.

More Secure Than a Traditional Deadbolt Lock

A traditional lock relies on a pin and tumbler setup to prevent entry without a key. The only problem with that is locks like those can be picked or forced open. Plus, if you lose your key, anyone who happens to pick it up could gain entry into your home.

How terrifying is that? With a biometric lock, on the other hand, you can rest assured that the only people entering your house are supposed to be there. Fingerprints can't be replicated, so biometric locks are basically impossible to fool. No approved fingerprint, no entry. Simple as that.

No Worrying About Keys

We've all been there -- running late to work, scrambling to get out of the door, when you realize you have no idea where you put your keys. Or what about the nightmare where you go somewhere crowded and can't find your keys when it's time to go home?

Biometric locks offer keyless entry, so no more stress over the last place you put the tiny object. Plus, there's no way you can lose a fingerprint. Never worry about being able to get back into your house again -- or about a stranger accessing your living space thanks to a fluke.

Maximum Control

With a traditional lock, you sometimes only have the illusion of security. Think about it -- how many spare keys have you given away to house sitters or neighbors? Have you ever wanted to take a key back?

Biometric locks make it easier than ever to have complete control over who can access your living space. If you want a friend to be able to come in, add their fingerprint to the database.

If you want to add a temporary house-sitter, add their fingerprint as well -- for a fixed amount of time. Once you're back home, you can revoke their access again. You have total power over your safety and who steps in the door.

Additional Safety Features

If an exclusive fingerprint isn't enough security for you, some biometric deadbolt locks have additional security built in. For example, you could also require a passcode along with your fingerprint. This makes the lock even more secure than it already was. Whatever safety features you want to see, there is probably a biometric lock made for you.
